Do you support Microsoft® FrontPage®?
Absolutely. In fact ChamberGates has been a registered Web Presence Provider (WPP) since early 2000. We were one of the first companies to become a registered 2002 WPP. We support all of the server extension features you would expect from a top quality web hosting company.

Can I use FTP and Microsoft FrontPage?
Yes you can and in some cases this is actually necessary. You should never use FTP to upload files that were created with the FrontPage Publisher because the FrontPage server extensions may become misconfigured. However, you can use FTP to transfer any files that were created outside of the FrontPage Publisher, like databases and Perl scripts. You may also use FTP to view your log files.
Do you support version <blank>?
We are running the latest version of the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions, FrontPage 2002, which is backward compatible with FrontPage 2000 and FrontPage 98. Some functionality did change with the new version so we also support FrontPage 2000 for those wanting to run this older version instead of the 2002 version.
Do you support the SharePoint Team Services?
Not at this time.
How do I open my web site directly on your server?
You can make changes directly to the server using your FrontPage client which is perhaps the simplest way to build your web site; however, this method will not allow you to build pages locally and your visitors will see your changes each time you make a save. To open your web site follow the instructions below.
  1. Open the FrontPage Editor.
  2. Select Open FrontPage Web... from the File menu.
  3. Select the first option Open an existing FrontPage Web.
  4. In the list box below this option you may already have some web sites. To determine if any of these are the web site you want to open, select the entry and then look at the line immediately below the list box. If that line equals your web address for your web site then this is your web site and you can click on the Ok button and skip to step 8.
  5. If you did not find an entry for your web site then click on the More Webs button.
  6. In the text box labeled Select a Web server or disk location enter http://<domain_name>/, where <domain_name> is your domain name (i.e. chambergates.com or whitehouse.gov).
  7. Click on the List Webs button.
  8. A "Name and Password Required" dialog should appear, enter your user name and password that were provided in your welcome letter and then click Ok.
  9. After a few moments your web site listing will appear with all your files.
Why do I keep getting the error "550 Permission Denied"?
This is because you are publishing to a FTP destination. Change your publish destination from "ftp..." to "http://<domain_name.com>/" where <domain_name.com> is your domain name.
Why do I keep getting the error "This form is being created on a Disk-Based Web..."?
This problem is being caused by you trying to test a form that requires the server extensions but you are actually using your local web which does not have them. The solution is to publish your web site to our servers. For more information review the following article from Microsoft, Q265072.
Why do I keep getting the error "Server Connection Timed Out"?
Why do I keep getting the error "The server has unexpectedly closed the
  connection"?
This problem was introduced with FrontPage 2000 and does not affect FrontPage 98. The newer versions of the FrontPage client use DLLs that are provided with Internet Explorer. For best results and to correct this problem you should install the latest version of Internet Explorer. If you upgraded your operating system from Windows 95/98 to Windows NT/2000/XP then you will need to reinstall Internet Explorer in order to get the proper DLLs.

If reinstalling the browser does not correct your problem then there is a good chance that your proxy server is causing the problem. To read more about this problem please review the following article from Microsoft, Q265044.

Why do I keep getting the error "Root web is busy"?
The FrontPage Server Extensions believes that another computer is currently updating your web site. If you are the only author for this web site or you know for sure that no one but you is updating this web site then you can delete the service.lck file from your /_vti_pvt directory to correct this problem.

Sometimes this error is caused when you unexpectedly lose your connection while uploading your changes. If you have requested support from ChamberGates regarding a FrontPage issue we might be working on your web site so please wait approximately 30 minutes to see if your site was legitimately locked by us for maintenance. We will NEVER work on your web site without you first contacting us so if you do not have an active support incident you can safely follow the corrective steps.

Why do I keep getting the error "Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions'
Smart HTML interpreter on this non-HTML page"?
This will occur if you attempt to use an ASP page as a confirmation page for one of your forms. The problem is that the FrontPage Server Extensions uses the SHTML.DLL to process web pages and does not ever call the ASP.DLL to process your ASP code. Although Microsoft does not have a specific article about this behavior you can see this explanation in the Cause section of the article 225200. To resolve the problem you should only use the htm or html extensions for your confirmation pages. If you are needing to write to a database you can obtain information on how to do this using FrontPage 2002 in article 299931.
Why do I keep getting the error "can't open the word hash file"?
This problem is typically caused by uploading new files with FTP instead of publishing with FrontPage. It can also occur if you lose connection during an publish operation. To correct this problem simply Recalculate your Web Site using FrontPage.
How do I recalculate my web site using FrontPage?
  1. Open the FrontPage web on the server.
  2. Once the web is open, Select Recalculate Hyperlinks from the Tools menu.
  3. When asked if you want to continue, click the Yes button.
  4. In the status bar you should see a globe turning, which indicates the recalculate is in process.
  5. When the recalculation completes the globe will turn back into a white arrow inside a blue circle.
  6. You can now close the FrontPage editor as the recalculation is complete.
