Anonymous FTP Tutorial

Anonymous access allows anyone that can connect to the FTP server the ability to access the FTP server in some fashion. The FTP server at ftp.chambergates.com has been configured to accept anonymous connections and all web hosting customers have access to these directories. For the purposes of this tutorial this service will be referred to as "Shared Access".
Gold Web hosting customers may also setup their own FTP servers so that users can access the FTP site using ftp.yourdomain.com instead of our host name. Since this is a completely seperate server it can have its own anonymous user account and can set custom restrictions for that user. This service will be referred to as "Private Access".
Shared Access
To enable shared access contact our technical support department and request that you would like to setup anonymous FTP access for your account. Once we receive and verify your request we will setup your own directory on our shared server and send you a confirmation email. There is no charge associated for this service.

Once you are setup there will be a directory under the /Hosts directory matching your account name. In this directory you will find two directories called /In and /Out. The /In directory will allow users to upload files to it, they will not be able to download any files from this directory. The /Out directory will let the users download files, but will not let them list the files. Your users will have to know the file names in order to download them.

You will have full control of these directories with your own existing FTP accounts. To manage these directories login via FTP as normal and then go into the /Anonymous directory. It should be noted that all disk space used in the FTP directories do count towards your total disk space limit. If you would like for us to place a disk quota on these directories at no cost to you please contact technical support.

Private Access
Setting up anonymous access for private FTP servers is no different than setting up any other user in FTP. Please refer to setting up private FTP users for further details.
